Todd

"Todd" is an album by American musician Todd Rundgren, released in February 1974. It is his sixth solo studio album. The album showcases Rundgren's diverse range of musical styles and talents, spanning from hard rock to experimental sounds. Each side of the double LP concludes with a lengthy, multi-part suite the most notable of which is "The Last Ride," an epic set-piece with exquisite melodic development.

The other three suites are more experimental in nature, with a great place of prominence being given to electronic sounds and effects. He combined these effects with his pop songcraft and multi-instrumental talent to create a unique sonic experience. The diversity of the album symbolizes Rundgren's expansive and ever-evolving musical palette at the peak of his career, demonstrating exactly why he is often cited as an influential figure in the development of progressive rock and power pop.

The album was recorded at Secret Sound in New York City, featuring Rundgren primarily as a one-man band with additional backing vocals from Hello People and future Utopia members Moogy Klingman, John Siegler, and Kevin Ellman. "Todd" achieved moderate chart success upon its release, peaking at Number 54 on the Billboard Pop Albums Chart. Its lone single, "A Dream Goes on Forever," also did reasonably well on the Pop Singles Chart, peaking at Number 69.

Despite not achieving the commercial success of some of Rundgren's other work, "Todd" remains a favorite among fans and critics for its ambition and creativity.
