"The Car" is the seventh studio album by the Arctic Monkeys, released on October 21, 2022. Primarily written by frontman Alex Turner in his homes in Los Angeles and Paris, the album showcases a diverse sound that builds on their previous work, particularly Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The production took place across Suffolk, Paris, and London, with James Ford at the helm, alongside contributions from various musicians.

The album artwork, featuring a white Toyota Camry in an empty parking garage, was shot by drummer Matt Helders. The title reflects both the cover image and the numerous vehicle references found in the lyrics.

Musically, The Car incorporates elements of art rock, orchestral rock, lounge pop, and jazz, while lyrically exploring themes of nostalgia and the complexities of show business. Critics praised its artistic evolution, although some fans found the departure from their earlier indie rock roots polarizing.

The album debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, facing competition from Taylor Swift’s Midnights. It has garnered several nominations, including a Grammy nod for Best Alternative Music Album and recognition for individual tracks like "There'd Better Be a Mirrorball" and "Body Paint."

Following the album's announcement in August 2022, Arctic Monkeys promoted it through various singles and a global tour, reflecting a blend of their signature sound with new, cinematic influences.
