The Blue Hour

"The Blue Hour" is the eighth studio album by English alternative rock band Suede, released on September 21, 2018. This album marks a significant change in their production, being the first since A New Morning not produced by longtime collaborator Ed Buller. Instead, it was produced by Alan Moulder, known for his work with various prominent bands.

The Blue Hour is also notable as Suede's final release under Warner Music. The album explores darker themes and showcases the band's evolution while retaining their distinctive sound. Its release was met with positive reviews, highlighting Suede's continued relevance in the alternative rock scene.

The concept for The Blue Hour originated in May 2016 when lead singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Richard Oakes, and keyboardist Neil Codling wrote the song "Mistress," which explores a boy's realization of his father's affair. Over the next eighteen months, the band composed the remaining tracks for the album.

Recording took place over six weeks from September to October 2017 at Assault & Battery Studios in London with new producer Alan Moulder. The album was completed in February 2018, shortly after finishing the orchestral sessions. Mixing wrapped up in April, and the band announced the album's release date, tracklisting, and artwork at the end of that month, alongside a test pressing at Abbey Road Studios. This meticulous process reflects Suede's commitment to crafting a cohesive and polished work, further enriching their legacy in alternative rock.
