Harper's separation was particularly painful as it involved his former spouse leaving him for a violinist, Nigel Kennedy, with whom Harper had been collaborating on a Brahms Violin Concerto adaptation. The song "Evening Star" from the album was written for and performed at the wedding of Robert Plant's daughter, Carmen, to Charlie Jones on 18 May 1991.
