A Night on the Town (Rod Stewart album)

"A Night on the Town" is Rod Stewart's seventh album, released in 1976. The cover art pays homage to Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting "Bal du moulin de la Galette," featuring Stewart inserted in period costume at the center. In a reissue by Rhino on June 30, 2009, the album was released as a two-disc CD with bonus tracks. Notably, "A Night on the Town" was Stewart's final studio album to top the UK charts until "Time" achieved the same feat in 2013.

Critically acclaimed, the album is often considered one of Stewart's finest works. "The Killing of Georgie" stands out for its poignant and powerful lyrics, recounting the tragic story of a gay friend ostracized by his family, who finds fame in New York City's nightlife but meets a tragic end at the hands of a gang. Despite its success, "Tonight's the Night" stirred controversy and was banned by several radio stations due to its explicit lyrics about sex and the loss of virginity. Additionally, Stewart's cover of Cat Stevens' "The First Cut Is the Deepest" became a major hit and remains one of his signature songs.
