Ballbreaker

"Ballbreaker" is the thirteenth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in 1995. The album marked a return to the band's classic sound, featuring heavy riffs and energetic performances. It was produced by Rick Rubin and received positive reviews for its raw intensity. In 2005, it was re-released as part of the AC/DC Remasters series, allowing a new generation of fans to experience the album in updated audio quality. Notable tracks include "Hard as a Rock" and "Cover You in Oil."

Ballbreaker marked a significant comeback for drummer Phil Rudd, who had left AC/DC during the Flick of the Switch sessions due to personal issues. After reconnecting with the band at a concert in 1991, Rudd made an open-ended pitch to return, and by August 1994, he was back in the fold, much to the disappointment of Chris Slade, who had been involved in recording demos with the band.

This album is notable as the only one produced by Rick Rubin, a long-time fan of AC/DC. Rubin's approach involved drawing inspiration from classic AC/DC sounds while incorporating modern production techniques. The band had previously worked with producer George Young, but Rubin brought a fresh perspective that aimed to recapture the raw energy of their earlier work.

Before Ballbreaker, Rubin produced the single "Big Gun" for the Last Action Hero soundtrack, which became a major hit. With Ballbreaker, AC/DC returned to their signature sound, highlighted by tracks like "Hard as a Rock" and "Cover You in Oil," solidifying their legacy in hard rock. The album was well-received and showcased the band's enduring appeal and musical prowess.
