Driving Rain

"Driving Rain" is the twelfth solo studio album by English musician Paul McCartney, released on November 12, 2001, as a double LP, a single cassette, and a single CD.

The album was produced by David Kahne and recorded in a relatively short time frame of two weeks, starting in February 2001. This fast-paced production mirrored McCartney's approach on Run Devil Run (1999), with the exception of two tracks. For the recording sessions, McCartney used musicians who were also scheduled to back him on tour.

The album's cover features a photograph taken using a Casio wristwatch with a built-in camera, offering a unique and personal touch to the visual presentation.

Lyrically, the album covers a range of emotions. One notable track, "Back in the Sunshine Again," was co-written by McCartney and his son James. The album also reflects McCartney's emotional journey following the events of September 11, 2001. While on a plane in New York City during the terrorist attacks, McCartney witnessed the tragedy from his seat. This experience deeply affected him, leading to the creation of the song "Freedom" and his involvement in organizing The Concert for New York City, a large charity event held at Madison Square Garden on October 20, 2001.

Some of the album's most personal tracks, like "About You" and "Heather," were written for McCartney's then-wife, Heather Mills, as expressions of gratitude for her support during the difficult period of grieving the death of his first wife, Linda McCartney.
