False Start

"False Start" is the sixth studio album by the American rock band Love, released in December 1970 by Blue Thumb Records.

The album continued to showcase the evolving sound of Love, reflecting a mix of rock, jazz, and orchestral elements. It followed *Out Here* and marked another phase in the band's transformation under the leadership of Arthur Lee. False Start includes contributions from new band members and features a range of styles that illustrate Love's ongoing experimentation during this period.

The second and final Love album for Blue Thumb Records, *False Start*, features significant influence from Arthur Lee’s friend Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix appears on the opening track, "The Everlasting First," recorded during a session at Olympic Studios in London on March 17, 1970. Hendrix collaborated with Love on several tracks during this session.

The remaining studio tracks were recorded in June and July 1970 at the Record Plant in Los Angeles. Additionally, "Stand Out," a song from the band's previous album Out Here 1969, is included on False Start in a live version recorded on February 27, 1970, at Waltham Forest Tech College in London.

In 1988, three selections from False Start were included in the Love compilation album Out There. In May 2007, the album was reissued by Hip-O Select as part of The Blue Thumb Recordings, a comprehensive collection of Love's work under the Blue Thumb label.
