Old Sock

"Old Sock" is the nineteenth solo studio album by Eric Clapton, released in 2013. The album features two new compositions by Clapton, "Gotta Get Over" and "Every Little Thing," along with a collection of cover songs that span his musical influences, from childhood favorites to contemporary classics. Notable collaborators on the album include Steve Winwood, JJ Cale, and Paul McCartney, with Cale's contribution marking his final major recorded work before his death in 2013. Old Sock reached No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 7 in the U.S., continuing Clapton's strong presence in the music scene.

The album title Old Sock was inspired by a conversation Clapton had with David Bowie. After Clapton heard Bowie's song "Where Are We Now?" he sent a note thanking him for the track. Bowie responded with a thank you message, calling Clapton "old sock," a term of endearment. Clapton, touched by the exchange, decided to use the phrase as the album title and shared the story behind it. Following Bowie's death in 2016, Clapton wrote a tribute on his social media, saying "Sweet dreams old sock."

The album cover features a selfie Clapton took with his iPhone while on holiday in Antigua, further adding a personal touch to the project. Old Sock represents both a reflective moment in Clapton's career and a celebration of his enduring legacy, blending new material with timeless influences.
