ONE PURPLE LAMBORGHINI WAS WRECKED—THE REPLACEMENT FILMED “COSMIC GIRL” WITHOUT A WINDSCREEN

For an album called Travelling Without Moving, Jamiroquai’s sleekest car fantasy began with a genuine automotive nightmare. 🚗

While planning the video for “Cosmic Girl,” Jay Kay decided its mysterious heroine would not be played by a woman. She would be his metallic-purple Lamborghini Diablo SE30—a rare, 5.7-litre V12 supercar that looked suitably extraterrestrial.

Then, before filming began, the man moving the Lamborghini crashed it.

Kay was on a tour bus in Germany when his manager delivered the news. The production needed another purple Diablo, so a replacement SE30 was found and the shoot in Spain was postponed. 💥

Kay gave the crew a clear instruction: nobody was to drive the second car before he arrived. 🟣

When he reached the location, everyone was staring at the ground.

According to Kay, one of the precision drivers had knocked a camera off the cliff beside the road. The camera struck the replacement Lamborghini and destroyed its windscreen. 🎥

A new screen could not arrive from Lamborghini quickly enough, but the production continued. For most of the finished video, Kay is driving the mountain roads without one—squinting into the rushing air while also trying to sing along. 🌬️

The surrounding convoy was nearly as extraordinary: a black Ferrari F355 GTS and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason’s red Ferrari F40, driven by Mason himself.

And that is the reveal hiding in plain sight. The famous shot of Kay’s hair whipping wildly around the Diablo’s cabin was not created by a wind machine or clever styling.

There was simply no glass in front of him.

“Cosmic Girl” became one of Travelling Without Moving’s defining images—but its polished supercar dream survived two battered purple Lamborghinis on the way to the screen. Sometimes glamour is just chaos moving very quickly. 🏁
