The Quest (Yes album)

"The Quest" is the twenty-second studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on October 1, 2021, through InsideOut Music and Sony Music. This album marks several milestones for the band: it's the first to feature Billy Sherwood on bass since 1999's "The Ladder," following the passing of original bassist Chris Squire in 2015. It's also the first album without any original members and the first since "Talk" (1994) to be produced solely by one member, guitarist Steve Howe. Tragically, it also became the final studio album released before the death of drummer Alan White in 2022.

During the album's creation, Yes utilized remote collaboration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, exchanging musical ideas online after their touring commitments ended in 2019. Lockdown provided the band an opportunity to focus intensely on crafting the album. Recording took place in California and England, with orchestral arrangements by Paul K. Joyce performed by the FAMES Orchestra in North Macedonia. Jon Davison, the band's frontman, took on the role of main lyricist, exploring themes such as hope, optimism, and environmental concerns.

Upon its release, "The Quest" was made available in multiple formats including CD, LP, Blu-ray Disc, and streaming platforms. It achieved a chart position of number 20 on the UK Albums Chart and garnered generally positive reviews. Critics praised Steve Howe's production and noted an improvement over the band's previous album, "Heaven & Earth" (2014). However, some reviews criticized the album for lacking standout or distinctive tracks.
