Live in Tokyo (Weather Report album)

"Live in Tokyo" is a live music album by Weather Report, an American jazz fusion band. This album was initially, exclusively, released in Japan in 1972. It was the third album overall by the band and the first to feature their second lineup with percussionist Dom Um Romao and drummer Eric Gravatt, after original drummer Alphonso Johnson and percussionist Airto Moreira departed following their studio debut.

The album mainly includes the recorded live performances of the band from January 13, 1972, at Shibuya Philharmonic Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Despite its exclusivity, the album eventually gained a worldwide release in 1975. "Live in Tokyo" is historic in essence as it captures the early developmental stage of the renowned Weather Report.

The performance primarily contains extended recordings from their first two studio albums: "Weather Report" and "I Sing the Body Electric". Some of the tracks featured in the album include "Early Minor", "Orange Lady", and "Unknown Soldier". The energy, spontaneity, and ethereal flow of the improvisations in the performance present on this album are perceived to help define the sound and direction that the band Weather Report would focus on in their subsequent works.
