Tempest in the Colosseum

"Tempest in the Colosseum" is a live album by the V.S.O.P. quintet, an ensemble of noted jazz musicians: Herbie Hancock (playing piano), Wayne Shorter (tenor saxophone), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Ron Carter (bass), and Tony Williams (drums). This gathering can be considered a reunion of Miles Davis’s “second great quintet” from the mid-1960s, where all of the musicians (except for Hubbard, who was replaced by Davis) initially played together. The live recording was done at a concert at the Denen Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan on July 23, 1977, and the album was released later the same year by Columbia Records.
