Dentures Out

"Dentures Out" is the twelfth studio album by Scottish folk rock duo the Proclaimers, released on 16 September 2022 through Cooking Vinyl. This album is their third collaboration with producer Dave Eringa, known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers. Notably, guitarist James Dean Bradfield contributed to the record. The album was supported by promotional tours in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

Like its predecessor, Angry Cyclist (2018), Dentures Out is rich in political themes and has been described as a "quasi" manifesto. The album conveys a strong anti-nostalgia sentiment, with songs referencing historical figures such as 16th-century theologian John Calvin and 19th-century philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Its themes address contemporary issues including the COVID-19 pandemic, identity politics, eschatology, and criticism of capitalism and the media's influence in politics.

The band revealed that the coronavirus restrictions in 2020 and 2021 significantly impacted their songwriting process, as they were unable to collaborate in person. As a result, several songs on Dentures Out reflect the melancholy of that period.

Dentures Out was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales over three weeks in Spring 2022. It marks the sixth Proclaimers album to be recorded at Rockfield and the duo's third collaboration with producer Dave Eringa, known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers since their 1993 album Gold Against the Soul. James Dean Bradfield, the frontman of the Manic Street Preachers, contributed guitar to two tracks on the album: "Things As They Were" and the title track "Dentures Out."

On 30 June 2022, the Proclaimers announced the release of their twelfth studio album, accompanied by the lead single "The World That Was." A press release highlighted Bradfield's involvement and emphasized that Dentures Out would be the band's most political album to date.
