The Godfathers (album)

"The Godfathers," also known as the Orange Album, is the fifth studio album by the English rock band the Godfathers, released in 1993 on the German label Intercord. It is notable for being the only studio album to feature drummer Ali Byworth and is named the Orange Album due to the citrus fruit on its cover. The album was reissued in 2013 through the band's own label, Godfathers Recordings, including a bonus disc with demos and live tracks.

Following their departure from Epic Records, where they had released three albums, the Godfathers signed with Intercord in 1993. The band, originally a five-piece, reconfigured to a four-piece lineup for this album, featuring founding members Peter and Chris Coyne, guitarist Chris Burrows, and Byworth. Recording took place in London at various studios from May to July 1993, produced by Ralph Jezzard.

Despite its release, the album struggled commercially, primarily due to limited distribution outside mainland Europe. Peter Coyne referred to it as a "lost Godfathers album," acknowledging that many fans were unaware of its existence. Byworth and Burrows left the band in 1995, leading to a new lineup for their subsequent album.

In 2013, to celebrate the album's 20th anniversary, the Godfathers reissued it, reclaiming the rights from Intercord and including the previously unreleased track "I'm Gone." Peter Coyne has expressed a fondness for the album, calling it an "overlooked gem" filled with great songs.
