Everybody Loves a Happy Ending

"Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" is the sixth studio album by English pop rock band Tears for Fears, released on September 14, 2004, in the United States and on March 7, 2005, in the United Kingdom and Europe.

This album marked the band's comeback after a hiatus in the late 1990s and saw the return of founding member Curt Smith. Despite its significance as a reunion effort, the album performed modestly on the UK and US music charts compared to the band's earlier successes. Following the release, the band primarily focused on touring, and it would be nearly eighteen years before they released a follow-up album.

Work on Everybody Loves a Happy Ending began in 2000, following the resolution of the longstanding feud between Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. The album was initially set to be released on the Arista label. However, due to changes in Arista's management, specifically the departure of L.A. Reid who had signed the duo, the band parted ways with the label before any music was commercially released. Only a limited number of red vinyl promos were produced by the record company.

Since Orzabal and Smith retained the album's copyright, they were able to leave Arista without needing to re-record the album. They subsequently secured deals with various independent and heritage record labels to release the album worldwide. In the US, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending was released in 2004 on the New Door label, a subsidiary of Universal Music. In the UK, it was released in 2005 on the British independent label Gut Records. In 2020, after signing with Irving and Jeff Azoff's Full Stop management company, the album became available on various streaming services globally.

As of January 2008, the album had sold 99,000 copies in the US according to SoundScan figures.
