In It for the Money

"In It for the Money" is the second studio album by English alternative rock band Supergrass. It was released on 21 April 1997 by Parlophone. It is noted for producing three top 20 hit singles, having a greater maturity than their debut, plus a variety of influences including punk rock, psychedelic music, and reggae.

The recording process for the album was extended, taking over seven months to complete. Primarily recorded in Sawmills Studio, a riverside facility in Golant, Cornwall, England, the band sought to prolong its stay in the studio due to the enjoyable nature of the recording progress. This created some tension with their record company, which had expected the album for release in time for Christmas 1996.

The development of "In It for the Money" began during a transitional phase for Supergrass, who had emerged from an extensive series of tours in support of their debut album, "I Should Coco". The band regarded the recording of the album as a learning process and considered it a substantial creative progression from their debut album, which was predominantly influenced by power pop and punk rock. Additionally, it marked a sharp departure from their earlier musical style, featuring a more expansive and experimental aesthetic.

"In It for the Money" received widespread acclaim from music critics upon release, with many appreciating the lyrical and musical growth demonstrated by Supergrass. It was also a commercial success, peaking at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and receiving platinum certification from the British Phonographic Industry.
