Spice

"Spice" is the debut studio album by the English girl group the Spice Girls, released in Japan on September 19, 1996, and in the United Kingdom on November 4, 1996, by Virgin Records. Recorded between 1995 and 1996 at Olympic Studios and Strongroom Studios in London, the album was produced by Matt Rowe, Richard Stannard, and the production duo Absolute.

Musically, Spice is a pop album that blends dance, R&B, and hip hop elements, centered around the empowering concept of "Girl Power." The album's release sparked a cultural phenomenon comparable to Beatlemania, rejuvenating the teen pop genre and paving the way for a new wave of pop artists.

The album achieved immense commercial success, topping charts in over 17 countries and earning Multi-Platinum certifications in 27 countries. It became the best-selling album of 1997, selling 19 million copies in its first year, and has since sold a total of 23 million copies worldwide. This makes it the best-selling album by a girl group in music history and one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Four singles were released from the album. The lead single, "Wannabe," reached number one in 37 countries and is one of the best-selling singles ever, with over six million copies sold globally. The subsequent singles, "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1," also topped charts in 53 countries. Additionally, "Who Do You Think You Are" was released as part of a double A-side with "Mama" for Comic Relief, both reaching the top 20 in various countries. In the UK, all four singles hit number one on the UK Singles Chart, while three of them made it to the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.
