Crystal Ball

"Crystal Ball" is a triple CD compilation album by American recording artist Prince, released on January 29, 1998 by NPG Records. The album contains unreleased tracks from the recording sessions of several of Prince's previous albums, "Sign of the Times", "Graffiti Bridge" and "Parade", among others. The tracks were reportedly left off the albums due to Warner Bros. Records' concerns about Prince's prolific output.

The album consists of a three-disc set, containing a disc of outtakes, a disc of unreleased tracks, and a disc of instrumentals, remixes and extended jams. The variety of music styles in Crystal Ball reflects Prince's varied musicality, encompassing funk, rock, new wave and soul.

The original title track that was intended for the 1986 album of the same name which eventually evolved into "Sign o' the Times" is included, along with its original, unheard length. The set also features a booklet with commentary by Prince about the songs and unseen photos.

"Crystal Ball" was initially available for purchase through direct order from Prince's 1-800 NEW FUNK catalogue service in November 1997. However, due to high demand and production delays, the album wasn't widely available until January 1998.

Despite the unconventional method of its release, "Crystal Ball" reached #62 on the Billboard 200, indicating Prince's significant fanbase and ongoing popularity. Critics vary in their judgement of the album, reflecting its eclectic and wide-ranging mix of styles.
