Ph.D. (album)

"Ph.D." is the debut eponymous studio album by British rock/pop band Ph.D. The record was released by Atlantic Records in 1982. The lineup comprises Jim Diamond (lead vocals), Tony Hymas (keyboard/vocals), and Simon Phillips (drums/percussion). The band found success with their top-ten motion tune, "I Won't Let You Down", which was a big hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number three in April 1982, and number five in Australia.

The success of the song helped their album reach respectable positions in various charts worldwide, and the band further released two other singles from the album, namely, "Little Suzi's on the Up" and "There's No Answer To It". The former made it to the UK's top 60 chart, and the latter failed to chart. The album artwork was done by established artist Peter Saville, who is well-known for his distinctive graphic design.

While this album brought the band considerable success, Ph.D.'s following works were not as successful due to Diamond's severe illness and the temporary disbandment of the group. However, their eponymous album "Ph.D." is considered a significant contribution to the pop and rock genres of the early 1980s.
