Flex

"Flex" is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Lene Lovich. Released in January 1979 by Stiff Records, it was helmed by her longtime collaborator and partner Les Chappell. The album saw Lovich experimenting with different genres, retaining the new wave sound of her previous work while incorporating elements of dance, pop, jazz and oriental music.

The album includes several prominent tracks such as "Bird Song," "What Will I Do Without You," and "Angels." "Bird Song" was particularly well received and was released as the album's lead single, peaking at No. 39 in the UK Singles Chart.

However, despite the success of the lead single, "Flex" did not achieve the commercial success of Lovich's debut album "Stateless," but it nonetheless cemented her reputation as an innovative and eclectic artist in the new wave genre. The album's title reflects the flexible, genre-blending approach to the music.

Even after the release, Lovich toured extensively in support of "Flex," further increasing her reputation for energetic and visually theatrical live performances. The concert tour for "Flex" also spurred the release of her 1980 live album "Live at the Savoy," which included performances of several songs from "Flex." Despite the relative commercial underperformance of "Flex," the album maintains a strong cult following and holds an important place within Lovich's discography.
