Light Years

"Light Years" is the seventh studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, released on September 22, 2000, in Australia and September 25, 2000, in the UK. After the commercial disappointment of Impossible Princess (1997), Minogue took a hiatus and signed with Parlophone in June 1999, marking a return to her pop roots. Collaborating with various writers and producers like Steve Anderson, Johnny Douglas, and Guy Chambers, she crafted a dance-pop, disco, and Europop album influenced by 1970s music.

Lyrically, Light Years celebrates themes of women's empowerment and sexuality with a cheeky, campy tone. Critics received it positively, praising Minogue's pop comeback, and it has since been regarded as one of her strongest works. The album won ARIA Awards for Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release in 2001 and peaked at number one on the Australian Albums Chart—her first number-one album in Australia. It also performed well internationally, reaching the top 10 in countries like the UK, New Zealand, and Russia.

Five singles were released, including hits like "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This," both reaching number one in Australia. Other singles, "Kids" and "Please Stay," also achieved top 10 success in the UK, while "Your Disco Needs You" was released solely in Australia and Germany. The album was further promoted by the On a Night Like This Tour, which grossed approximately $5 million, making it the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist in Australia at the time. In 2018, Light Years was re-issued in Europe, returning to the UK and Scottish Albums Charts.
