Follow the Leader

"Follow the Leader" is the third studio album by American nu metal band Korn. Released on August 18, 1998, by Immortal/Epic Records, the album was a significant departure from their earlier works. Rather than sticking to the raw, underground sound of their previous albums, Korn chose a more polished and refined approach for "Follow the Leader." It was remarkably successful in bringing the band mainstream attention and is often credited for bringing nu metal into the mainstream spotlight.

Produced by Steve Thompson and Toby Wright, the recording sessions took place in January 1998 throughout Electric Lady Studios, New York City, and Southern Tracks Recording, Atlanta. The album features numerous collaborations with various musicians including Ice Cube, Tre Hardson from Pharcyde, and Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit.

Upon its release, the album was well-received by critics and was a commercial success. It peaked at number one on the Billboard 200, and it managed to reach Multi-Platinum status in a number of countries, including the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. All in all, "Follow the Leader" proved to be a definitive album of the late '90s and remains one of Korn's best works to date. It includes popular hits such as "Got the Life" and "Freak on a Leash." The latter is particularly known for its innovative music video.

Despite its success, "Follow the Leader" marked a tumultuous period in the band's history, with themes of drug abuse and violence present throughout the album. However, the band's willingness to experiment with their sound and their honest portrayals of personal challenges helped Korn to cement their place in rock history.
