Catch as Catch Can

"Catch as Catch Can" is the third studio album by Kim Wilde, released in autumn 1983. It did not see a North American release, nor did any of its singles. Following a UK and European tour in late 1982, Kim Wilde returned with the single "Love Blonde," which featured a jazz/swing-inspired sound and lyrically poked fun at the blonde bombshell image portrayed by the media. However, the rest of the album maintained an electronic theme introduced on her previous album, Select. Most of the songs were co-written by Marty and Ricky Wilde, except for the second single "Dancing in the Dark," which was penned by Nicky Chinn and Paul Gurvitz, with Ricky Wilde serving as the producer.

The album contains tracks that tell stories, such as "House of Salome" and "Sing It Out for Love," while "Dream Sequence" presents a more abstract narrative through random imagery. The cool blue cover art was created by photographer Sheila Rock.

Catch as Catch Can received mixed reviews and struggled to produce successful singles, leading to declining sales despite a second European tour. When the compact disc format was introduced, the album was released in Japan on CD, becoming a sought-after item among fans over the years. It was later included in a limited 3-CD box set called The Originals in 1995 and was finally re-released on May 18, 2009, as a remastered special edition.
