Song for America

"Song for America" is the second studio album by the American rock band Kansas, released in 1975. The album was reissued in remastered format on CD in 2004. Famous for its blending of rock and classical music, Kansas incorporated various styles into their compositions under the direction of producer Jeff Glixman.

The album showcases different elements of Kansas' varied style. The classical stylings and interplay of Steve Walsh's piano and Kerry Livgren's guitar on pieces like "Lamplight Symphony" were building a solid listener base on FM radio. The title track, "Song for America", an epic showcasing the band's progressive rock leanings, has gone on to become a favorite on classic rock radio and a staple of the band's live performances.

In contrast, the nine-minute, Livgren-penned epic "Incomudro - Hymn to the Atman" foreshadowed the direction Kansas would take in their future progressive rock efforts that soon led to their breakthrough with popular albums Leftoverture and Point of Know Return.
