Maya

"Maya" is the eleventh studio album by American musician John Frusciante, released on October 23, 2020, through Timesig, a label owned by Venetian Snares. This album is his first full-length instrumental electronic work released under his own name, available in digital format, limited edition vinyl, and compact disc, with a later pressing on lilac purple vinyl in March 2021. On August 31, 2020, the track "Amethblowl" was made available for streaming on Frusciante's Bandcamp page as a pre-order bonus.

The album is dedicated to Frusciante's cat Maya, who passed away earlier that year. Frusciante explained that Maya had been with him for 15 years while he made music, and he wanted to honor her with the album's title. He noted that she loved music, and given the personal nature of the title, he felt it was more appropriate to release it under his own name rather than his Trickfinger alias. Frusciante expressed that his current creative process focuses on making music without the desire to sing or write lyrics, emphasizing his enjoyment of working with machines and computers.
