Anthology

"Anthology" is a compilation album by the British progressive jazz-rock band Colosseum. It was released in 2000, spanning the recorded output of the band from 1969 to 1971. Colosseum was formed in 1968, bringing together musicians from several prominent bands of the time. They are generally considered one of the progenitors of the progressive jazz-rock movement of the late '60s and early '70s.

The band included such notable artists as drummer Jon Hiseman, tenor sax player Dick Heckstall-Smith, bassist Tony Reeves, and keyboardist/vocalist Dave Greenslade. Over time, the line-up incorporated other notable musicians like guitarist/vocalist James Litherland and later, guitarist/vocalist Clem Clempson.

The "Anthology" album reflects the band's innovative blend of jazz, blues, and progressive rock, featuring tracks from their four early studio albums: "Those Who Are About to Die Salute You", "Valentyne Suite", "The Grass Is Greener", and "Daughter of Time". It includes some of their most famous songs such as “Walking in the Park," “Rope Ladder to the Moon,” and “Theme from an Imaginary Western.”

Colosseum disbanded in 1971 but vastly influenced the progressive jazz-rock scene. They are remembered for blurring the boundaries between rock, jazz, and blues, creating a unique sound that was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. The "Anthology" album stands as a testament to their creative prowess and musical legacy.
