Chances Are

"Chances Are" is a compilation album by Bob Marley & The Wailers released in 1981. The album consists of previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions of well-known songs, and leftovers from previous recordings sessions that remained unreleased following Marley's death.

The background of the album is quite interesting. The tracks included in this compilation are those which were recorded during the period of 1968-1972, a time when Bob Marley was involved in a contract with JAD Records. These songs were before the revolutionary phase that came with the album "Catch a Fire" in 1973 under Island Records.

About the title track "Chances Are", it was recorded at Randy's studio by the Wailers, who were Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer at that time. It was different from their earlier compositions which were deeply rooted in Jamaica's ska and rocksteady styles, instead, it revealed the direction of their future music style, which is now famously known as reggae.

Despite the fact that the album is comprised of earlier works and does not possess the mainstream sound that Bob Marley and The Wailers are known for, it still holds historical significance as it presents the evolution of their music and gives listeners a unique glimpse into the progress of their artistry.
