Higher Ground

"Higher Ground" is the twenty-seventh studio album by American singer Barbra Streisand, released on November 11, 1997, in North America (and a day earlier in Europe). It marks her first album in four years, following Back to Broadway (1993). The album was dedicated to Virginia Clinton Kelley, the mother of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The album's lead single, "Tell Him," a duet with Celine Dion, was released in October 1997 and became a major international hit. Other notable singles from the album include "If I Could" and the title track "Higher Ground." "If I Could" had been previously recorded by jazz singer Nancy Wilson, while the album also features a medley of the inspirational songs "I Believe" and "You'll Never Walk Alone," which Streisand later issued as standalone tracks.

Additionally, the album includes a cover of Bernard Ighner's "Everything Must Change," a song Streisand had originally recorded during the sessions for her 1974 album ButterFly, but which had remained unreleased until now.

Higher Ground became Streisand's eighth number-one album on the U.S. charts and has sold over five million copies worldwide, further cementing her status as one of the most successful recording artists of all time.
