Super Trouper

"Super Trouper" is the seventh studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA, released on 3 November 1980. It features the number one singles "The Winner Takes It All" and "Super Trouper," and became the UK's biggest-selling album of 1980. The album, led by the hit "The Winner Takes It All," marked ABBA's sixth chart-topping album in the UK and was the best-selling album in Britain for that year. It was first released on CD in 1983 by Polar Music International, with subsequent releases by Polydor and Atlantic Records in the late 1980s. The album has been reissued in digitally remastered form four times, including a Deluxe Edition with a bonus DVD in 2011.

The divorce between Björn and Agnetha influenced the themes in "The Winner Takes It All," while the members' lives in Stockholm's high society shaped the lyrics of "On and On and On." Other notable tracks include the title track "Super Trouper" and the electro-dance hit "Lay All Your Love on Me." The album represents a return to a more straightforward pop sound, distancing itself from the disco influences of their previous album, Voulez-Vous. It closes with "The Way Old Friends Do," a live recording from their 1979 concert tour, which was later released as a single in 1992.

Super Trouper was first issued on CD in 1983 and has undergone multiple reissues. For its 40th anniversary in 2020, it was released as a multi-format collection, including a double-LP and a box set of singles pressed on colored vinyl. The 2011 Deluxe Edition celebrated its 30th anniversary, featuring a remastered CD with bonus tracks and a second disc with various television content and a documentary about the album.

The album cover, designed by Rune Söderqvist, features the group surrounded by circus performers and was photographed in Europa Film Studios, Stockholm, after permission was denied for a shoot in central London. Friends of ABBA, including staff from Polar Music and other acquaintances, also appear on the cover. Additionally, scenes filmed by Lasse Hallström were used in music videos for "Happy New Year" and "Super Trouper."
