Gong - The Universe Also Collapses

As someone who has always enjoyed psychedelic and progressive music, I found The Universe Also Collapses by Gong to be a fascinating and emotional album. Released in 2019, it feels like a modern continuation of Gong’s cosmic spirit while also carrying a deeper sense of reflection and maturity. The band manages to blend space rock, jazz fusion, and psychedelic experimentation into something that feels both classic and fresh at the same time.

What I really appreciate about this album is its atmosphere and musicianship. Tracks flow naturally with hypnotic grooves, floating guitar work, and energetic improvisation that remind me why Gong has always been such a unique band. At the same time, there’s an emotional weight behind the music, especially knowing it was created after the passing of Daevid Allen. Instead of sounding nostalgic, the album feels alive, adventurous, and full of imagination.

For me, The Universe Also Collapses is one of those albums that rewards repeated listening. Every time I hear it, I notice new layers, textures, and details hidden inside the music.
