Slade are an English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966. Known for their energetic and flamboyant performances, the band rose to prominence in the early 1970s as one of the most successful groups in the United Kingdom. Slade's beginnings can be traced back to 1966 when drummer Don Powell and guitarist Dave Hill began playing together in a band called The 'N Betweens. Shortly thereafter, bassist Jimmy Lea and vocalist Noddy Holder joined them to complete the lineup that would transition into Slade. Originally performing under the moniker 'Ambrose Slade,' the band released their debut album 'Beginnings' in 1969. Although the album did not chart, it marked the start of their recording career. They soon shed the 'Ambrose' from their name and adopted a mod-influenced skinhead look, which helped them stand out in the burgeoning British music scene.
