Promises and Lies

"Promises and Lies" is the tenth album by the British reggae band UB40. Released on the 27th of July 1993, it includes the band's hit cover of Elvis Presley's song "Can't Help Falling in Love," which was a huge success in the U.S. and around the world. It was the band's second #1 hit in the U.S. after their cover of Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine."

The album was successful on the charts, reaching #1 on the UK Albums Chart as well as charting in several other countries including the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and in several European markets. In addition to the Elvis Presley cover, "Promises and Lies" features 10 other tracks, including titles such as "C'est La Vie," "Now and Then," and "It's a Long Long Way."

Comprising of 11 songs, the album exhibits the band's distinctive blend of reggae and pop. The members involved in making this album include Ali Campbell, Robin Campbell, Earle Falconer, Norman Hassan, Brian Travers, Astro, James Brown, and Mo Birch. The album's cover artwork was designed by Mike Coles, the creative director of cover images.

Although the album was a commercial success, it marked the beginning of a decline in UB40's fortunes. Despite this, "Promises and Lies" remains a significant part of the band's discography, showcasing the group's signature sound and their ability to reinterpret well-known songs in a reggae style.
