Triumph and Agony

"Triumph and Agony" is the fourth studio album from the Germany-based heavy metal band, Warlock. It was released on September 5, 1987, through Vertigo Records. The album stands as Warlock's breakthrough record across the globe particularly in the United States, where their single “All We Are” became a popular hit. Not only does the album mark a significant achievement in the band's commercial success, but it also marks a change in the band's lineup.

Right before the creation of "Triumph and Agony", there were several changes made to Warlock's lineup. The only founding member was frontwoman Doro Pesch, making this album a unique blend of the band's historic heavy metal sound and new influences. The album's production was led by Joey Balin and includes renowned songs like "All We Are", "I Rule The Ruins", "Für Immer", and "Metal Tango".

This prominent album has been considered a classic within the heavy metal genre. Traditionally, Warlock relied heavily on elements of raw, heavy metal - but "Triumph and Agony", while still being notably heavy, featured more melodic elements and showcased Pesch’s versatility as a vocalist. Despite the successful run of the album, the band was forced to dissolve due to legal disputes, turning "Triumph and Agony" into a farewell effort of sorts, and making it the last Warlock album before Doro Pesch continued her career as a solo artist.
