Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory

"Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory" is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Traffic. It was released in 1973 by Island Records. The album, whose title is based on an expression for daydreaming, features five songs of varying musical styles, including jazz, folk, and rock.

This album is the second to feature the expanded lineup of Traffic that included three new members in addition to the original band members Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, and Chris Wood. The new members were drummer Roger Hawkins, bassist David Hood, and guitarist Barry Beckett, all part of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section that Winwood admired.

Among the album's notable tracks are its lengthy title track, "Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory," and "Roll Right Stones." Both songs display the extended instrumental passages that are characteristic of Traffic's music.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, the album reached number six on the Billboard 200 chart in America and was subsequently certified Gold for selling over 500,000 copies. In the UK, it peaked at number 10. This album marks a transition point for the band, with it being their second-to-last studio release before they disbanded following their next album.
