Toto (album)

"Toto" is the debut studio album by the American rock band Toto, released in October 1978. The album was recorded at Studio 55, Hollywood, California and produced by the band members themselves. It comprises of ten tracks, featuring a variety of musical styles, and successfully showcases the band's virtuosic musical ability and range incorporating elements of rock, pop, soul, and jazz.

The band Toto was formed in 1977 in Los Angeles, California, by a group of seasoned session musicians, including David Paich (keyboards, vocals), Steve Lukather (guitar, vocals), Jeff Porcaro (drums), Steve Porcaro (keyboards), David Hungate (bass), and Bobby Kimball (vocals). Despite being their first, the album was a commercial success and received favorable reviews from music critics.

The most popular single from the album, "Hold the Line," peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US. Besides "Hold the Line", the album includes other notable tracks such as "I'll Supply the Love" and "Georgy Porgy," each of which made it into the Top 50 in the USA.

"Toto" has been certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting two million units sold in the United States. The band went on to receive multiple Grammy Awards and is recognized for their musicianship, complex compositions, and vocal and instrumental prowess. They are considered one of the best-selling music groups of their era, with sales totaling over 40 million albums worldwide.
