Zeitgeist

"Zeitgeist" is the seventh studio album by the American rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on July 10, 2007, on Martha's Music and Reprise Records. It marked the band's first album since reuniting in 2006, following a breakup in 2000. The album was recorded by returning members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, and produced by Roy Thomas Baker, Terry Date, Corgan, and Chamberlin themselves.

The lead single from the album, "Tarantula", was released ahead of the album and received notable attention. "Zeitgeist" debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, reflecting strong initial sales, though these diminished over time. Critically, the album received mixed reviews, with some praising its return to a heavier sound reminiscent of the band's earlier work, while others found it lacking compared to their previous efforts.

Despite its mixed reception, "Zeitgeist" was certified Gold in the United States by February 2008. The release was accompanied by a tour for which Corgan and Chamberlin enlisted Jeff Schroeder on guitar, Ginger Reyes on bass, and Lisa Harriton on keyboards. Schroeder later became a core member of the band, contributing to subsequent releases.

"Zeitgeist" marked the last album with Jimmy Chamberlin until his return in 2018 for "Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun." It remains a notable chapter in the Smashing Pumpkins' discography, reflecting a pivotal period in the band's history following their reunion.
