Conspiracy of One

"Conspiracy of One" is the sixth studio album by American rock band the Offspring, released on November 14, 2000, by Columbia Records. By the time of its release, the band had expressed support for peer-to-peer file sharing, claiming it wouldn't negatively impact album sales. Initially, the band had planned to release the album directly on their website before it hit retail, but Columbia Records intervened with threats of legal action, leading to a physical release. The album also marked the last appearance of drummer Ron Welty, who was fired in 2003 and went on to form Steady Ground.

The album debuted at number nine on the US Billboard 200, selling over 125,000 copies in its first week. It spawned the singles "Original Prankster," "Want You Bad," and "Million Miles Away." While it wasn't as commercially successful as its predecessor Americana (1998), Conspiracy of One was later certified platinum by the RIAA.

The recording process began in early 2000 after the band spent much of 1999 touring in support of Americana. Frontman Dexter Holland explained in an interview that the band took some time off before starting work on new material, with nine demo tracks already in development. The band entered the studio in June 2000, recording the album at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, California, with producer Brendan O'Brien. The recording sessions lasted for about two months.
