Cloudcuckooland

"Cloudcuckooland" is the debut album by musical group The Lightning Seeds, an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1989. The album was released in 1989 by Ghetto Record Company and produced by Ian Broudie, the group's founder, vocalist, and principal member. This album has a total of eleven songs, including the band's first two hits, "Pure" and "Joy."

The album showcases the band's unique blend of pop and alternative rock. The sound has a somewhat ethereal quality, leading to the album's title which references a term used in literature and popular culture to depict a whimsically absurd, often beautiful place or situation - much like the type of atmosphere the music creates.

The lead single "Pure" is considered a breakthrough for the group, reaching no. 16 in the UK Singles Chart as well as No. 31 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ian Broudie, initially a songwriter and producer working with bands like Echo and the Bunnymen and The Fall, utilized a high quality studio environment to painstakingly craft the tracks of the album, layering guitar lines and weaving rich, melodic tapestries of sound. The album was reissued in 2009, which also included B-sides and a detailed biography.
