Dancing Machine

"Dancing Machine" is the ninth studio album by the Motown quintet the Jackson 5, released on September 5, 1974. The title track was a No. 2 pop hit and a No. 1 R&B hit in the United States. The album also produced two additional singles: the funky "Whatever You Got, I Want" and "I Am Love," which became the group's last US Top 20 hit for Motown. To date, "Dancing Machine" has sold approximately 2.6 million copies worldwide.

Although the Jacksons were back on the charts, the brothers, particularly Michael, expressed dissatisfaction with their artistic direction. Despite this, the album continued their trend of disco concept albums and featured lead singers Michael and Jermaine Jackson prominently. It was notable for being the first album where all the brothers sang in their natural voices on the same song, "It All Begins and Ends with Love," with the order of vocals being Tito, Jackie, Michael, Marlon, and Jermaine closing the song. During this period, the Jacksons were performing in Las Vegas with the rest of the family, which led to limited promotion for the album. In an interview with Don Cornelius on the R&B TV show "Soul Train," Michael mentioned that "If I Don't Love You This Way" and "What You Don't Know" were his favorite tracks. The album was arranged by Arthur G. Wright, Jerry Marcellino, Mel Larson, John Bahler, James Anthony Carmichael, and Sam Brown III.
