Simons explicitly said he would judge music more harshly if it came from a big-name act, described Electronic Battle Weapon as a minor subterfuge intended to help DJs approach the track with open ears, and said the duo sent it directly to DJs while finishing the album. A contemporary Music Week review corroborates that the identity behind an early Electronic Battle Weapon was treated as uncertain. Independent 2008 coverage from NME, Pitchfork and self-titled describes the series as tracks made for DJs to test in clubs, DJ test pressings, and white-label-driven releases. DJ Mag’s 2024 account confirms that Electronic Battle Weapon 3 was later tweaked and renamed “Under the Influence.” The Chemical Brothers’ official album page confirms that Brotherhood includes Electronic Battle Weapons 1 through 10, while Apple Music corroborates the connection between Electronic Battle Weapon 10 and “Midnight Madness.”
