A Brief History of Love

"A Brief History of Love" is the debut album by British electronic rock duo the Big Pink, released on September 14, 2009, on 4AD. The album came after the band signed with 4AD in February 2009 and won the NME Philip Hall Radar Award for best new act. The BBC also named the band as "one of the most likely breakout acts of 2009."

Before the album's release, the Big Pink issued three singles: "Too Young to Love"/"Crystal Visions" in October 2008 on House Anxiety, "Velvet" in April 2009 on 4AD, and "Stop the World" in June 2009. The album’s first proper single, "Dominos," was released on September 7, 2009.

The album was produced by Milo Cordell at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, with Rich Costey mixing it, except for "Velvet," which was mixed by Alan Moulder. Cordell explained that the title *A Brief History of Love* reflects the album's exploration of different facets of love, from the good and exciting to the bad and mundane.

In addition to the singles "Dominos" and "Velvet," the album features re-recorded versions of earlier tracks "Too Young to Love," "Crystal Visions," and "Countbackwards from Ten." The album charted at #56 on the UK Albums Chart, and "Dominos" reached #27 on the UK Singles Chart. A reissue of "Velvet" in February 2010 charted at #149.
