Demonic

"Demonic" is the seventh studio album by the American thrash metal band Testament. Released on June 9, 1997, the album marked a stylistic shift for the band, incorporating a heavier and more aggressive death metal influence compared to their previous work. This change in sound is characterized by downtuned guitars, blast beats, and Chuck Billy's guttural vocal style, which differed from his earlier thrash metal vocal techniques.

The album was recorded at Driftwood Studios in Oakland, California, with the band primarily self-producing the project. The lineup for "Demonic" included Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson on guitar, Derrick Ramirez on guitar, Gene Hoglan on drums, and Greg Christian on bass. Notably, Eric Peterson and Derrick Ramirez's guitar work contributed significantly to the more brutal and darker tone of the record.

"Demonic" did not achieve the same level of commercial success as some of the band's earlier albums, in part due to its departure from traditional thrash metal elements. Despite this, it has since gained a cult following among fans who appreciate its raw and intense approach.

The album's themes revolve around darker, more occult topics, with lyrics exploring horror and demonic imagery. This thematic direction aligns with the heavier musical style, creating a cohesive atmosphere throughout the album.

Overall, "Demonic" represents a bold experiment for Testament, showcasing their ability to adapt and explore new musical territories while maintaining their aggressive edge.
