A New Morning

"A New Morning" is the fifth studio album by English alternative rock band Suede, released in September 2002. By the time of its release, public interest in the band had diminished, which was reflected in the album's poor chart performance and the singles’ lackluster reception. Despite this, the album garnered moderate praise from critics and is notable for being the only Suede album not released in the U.S. It also marked their last studio album before a seven-year hiatus, followed by a reunion in 2010.

The album's production faced challenges, particularly with keyboardist Neil Codling leaving the band due to health issues related to chronic fatigue syndrome. He was replaced by Alex Lee from Strangelove. Lead singer Brett Anderson, who had overcome his crack addiction during this period, noted that A New Morning was the first Suede record free from drug influences. He wrote the lyrics while isolated in a country house in Surrey, drawing inspiration from literature and nature, including works by Michel Houellebecq and J.G. Ballard.

The creative process involved a deliberate distancing from the rest of the band, allowing Anderson to absorb various artistic influences, resulting in a reflective and mature sound that characterized the album.
