Deadlines

"Deadlines" is the 12th studio album by the British band Strawbs. It was initially released in 1977 by Arista Records. The album marks the last studio album with the lineup comprising of Dave Cousins, Dave Lambert, Chas Cronk, Rod Coombes, Robert Kirby, and John Mealing, which ended upon the completion of recording. After that, the band Strawbs went into a period of relative inactivity.

The album carries a unique analog and digital mix, where two tracks, "No Return" and "Joey and Me," were recorded entirely digitally, a pioneer work at that time. The album activation was fraught with problems, which included the initial recordings rejection, a studio change, and subsequent addition of synthesisers and other modern as well as classical instruments into the tracks. These additions included choir-like vocal arrangements and fiery electric guitar solos, a highlight in Strawbs' musical progression.

The album includes ten songs, each conveying deep emotions and intricate musicality, featuring the Strawbs' signature blend of progressive rock, folk, and pop. Despite the challenges it faced during creation, it still gained recognition and respect from fans and critics.

"Deadlines" covers a variety of themes from love to loss, pushing listeners through an array of emotions. While it may not have achieved the commercial success of some of the Strawbs' other album, it nonetheless showcases the depth and complexity of their music and remains an intriguing piece of their discography.
