Mystery Girl

"Mystery Girl" is a posthumous album by American singer Roy Orbison, produced by Jeff Lynne and Orbison. Released in February 1989 through Virgin Records, it's the last album completed before Orbison's death in December 1988. The album became a hit worldwide, reaching the number 5 position on the U.S. Billboard 200 and topping the UK Albums Chart.

The album, following a hiatus in Orbison's career was a comeback of sorts and featured contributions from several notable artists. It included the hit single "You Got It", which rose to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, making it Orbison's highest-charting single in nearly three decades. Moreover, it was the first album that featured Orbison's work as a songwriter in more than ten years.

Guest contributors on the album included Tom Petty, Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and other members of the Traveling Wilburys, a supergroup comprising Orbison, Lynne, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Tom Petty.

Centered around Orbison’s powerful operatic vocals, the songs are diverse in style, ranging from tender ballads like "A Love so Beautiful" to harder rocking numbers like "(All I Can Do Is) Dream You." The album received universal acclaim from music critics and fans alike, emphasizing Orbison’s enduring talent as a singer and songwriter.
