Peter Gabriel (1982 album)

"Peter Gabriel" is the fourth studio album by English rock musician Peter Gabriel, released in 1982. In the United States and Canada, the album was released under the title Security by Geffen Records. Some music streaming services refer to it as Peter Gabriel 4: Security. A German-language version of the album, titled Deutsches Album (German Album), was also released.

The album marked an expansion of Gabriel's exploration into post-punk and world music influences, building on the themes of his 1980 self-titled record. It was notable for producing Gabriel's first U.S. Top 40 single, "Shock the Monkey."

The album was remastered in 2002 along with most of Gabriel's catalog.

The album was recorded in 1981 at Ashcombe House, which was located close to where Peter Gabriel lived at the time, about half a mile away in Somerset. It was an early example of digital recording, having been mixed to a Sony PCM-1610 digital 2-track. The album features many unique sounds from the revolutionary sampler/synthesizer Fairlight CMI. During the first two weeks of recording, the Mobile One, a London-based recording truck with 46-track recording facilities, was used.
