New Picnic Time

"New Picnic Time" is the third album by American rock band Pere Ubu, released in September 1979 by Chrysalis Records. The recording sessions were reportedly stressful and contentious, leading to the band's disbandment shortly after touring, though they would reform months later with Mayo Thompson replacing founding guitarist Tom Herman. The lyrics for the song "The Voice of the Sand" draw inspiration from the poetry of Vachel Lindsay.

The album has seen multiple reissues, including a 1989 CD release by Rough Trade Records, a 1999 CD by Thirsty Ear Records, and a 2008 CD from Cooking Vinyl. Notably, the 1989 Rough Trade CD featured a re-titled track "Hand A Face A Feeling," and subsequent reissues remixed and re-titled "Jehovah's Kingdom Comes!" to "Kingdom Come," removing all references to Jehovah. The 2017 Fire Records reissues and the 2016 box set Architecture of Language 1979 - 1982 included edits to the song, cutting approximately twenty-five seconds of music. Additionally, the title of the opening track, "Have Shoes Will Walk (The Fabulous Sequel)," has varied across different releases.
