American Dream

"American Dream" is the fourth studio album by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. It was released on September 1, 2017, through DFA and Columbia. It marked the band's return after a disbandment lasting nearly five years, as previous to this, the band had released a "farewell" concert and movie titled the "Long Goodbye" in 2011.

"American Dream" encompasses ten tracks with a total duration of almost 69 minutes. The genre primarily spans dance-punk, new wave, and synth-pop. The album was produced by the band's frontman James Murphy in conjunction with other band members.

The album received widespread acclaim from music critics, who praised its cohesive sound and the lyrical depth. Its vintage yet modern aesthetic, combined with influences from David Bowie, Talking Heads, and others, enhanced its appeal. Additionally, its thematic exploration covering topics like aging, regret, and societal cynicism resonated with many listeners.

"American Dream" was commercially successful as well. It became the band's first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It was also honored with a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album and won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording for its single "Tonite". In the UK, it peaked at number 3, and it was also a top 10 hit in various other countries.

The album included the singles "Call the Police", "American Dream", and "Tonite", all of which were released prior to the album and contributed to its hype. Reflecting on the album's success, Murphy stated that the album was about getting older and not being scared of that.
