45:33

"45:33" is a musical composition by LCD Soundsystem, an American rock band project led by James Murphy. The album was initially conceived as a continuous disco workout mix to give an alternative to traditional workout music. It was commissioned by Nike for use in their Nike+ Original Run series, which were downloadable albums intended to be used as running soundtracks.

Despite its title, the composition doesn't run exactly 45 minutes and 33 seconds, but instead stretches out over 45 minutes and 58 seconds. The title itself is a reference to vinyl speeds (45 RPM and 33 RPM) and might also be alluding to the extended edits and mixes commonly found in dance music.

The album was released digitally through the iTunes music store on October 17, 2006, then given a physical release more than a year later, in November 2007. Later versions of the album break the composition into individual tracks.

The album is largely instrumental, traversing a number of musical styles including funk, electronica, soul, and disco. "45:33" contains samples and elements from previous LCD Soundsystem tracks, and much of the material was reworked for their following studio album "Sound of Silver".

As a standalone piece of work, "45:33" exemplifies Murphy's use of repetition and layering of rhythms and musical phrases, and is emblematic of LCD Soundsystem's distinctive sound. Critical reception to the album was generally positive, with many praising its fluid transitions and cohesiveness.
